Women and Wilderness by Anne Labastille,

Women and Wilderness by Anne Labastille,
The wilderness, as a living and working environment, is still a frontier for women. But more and more women are moving outside the walls of home and office and into careers in the great outdoors -- along step psychologically and physically from traditional female roles. In this groundbreaking book, wildlife ecologist Anne LaBastille profiles 15 adventurous and accomplished women whose lives and work center on the outdoors. They include: -- Krissa Johnson, a young designer-builder of log homes -- Margaret Murie, conservationist and lifetime partner of naturalist Olaus Murie -- Carol Ruckdeschel, a freelance naturalist who guided then-governor Jimmy Carter down Georgia's wild Chattahoochee River -- Nicole Duplaix, leader of the World Wildlife Fund's team monitoring the illegal endangered-species trade -- Eugenie Clark, the famous "shark lady" of marine biology LaBastille also examines the factors that have alienated women from wilderness in the past, and shows how feminism and the environmental movement have allowed the "wilderness within women" to emerge. Updated with a new Afterword for this edition, Women and Wilderness offers exciting career ideas and inspiration for women everywhere. Anne LaBastille has been honored by the World Wildlife Fund, The Explorer's Club, and Chevron Corporation for her work in wildlife conservation. She contributes to National Geographic, Reader's Digest, and other magazines, and lectures nationwide about ecology. Her other books include the best-selling Woodswoman, Beyond Black Bear Lake (a sequel), and, most recently, Mama Poc. She lives in the Adirondacks.

The Family Joke Book by Brad Taylor,
The Family Joke Book by Brad Taylor,
This thoughtful collection of humorous and wholesome stories and jokes comes from the authors family experiences, including stories told by and to grandparents and grandchildren. Loosely divided into four broad age groups, the book is one way to get the family talking and provides a vehicle for easy conversation and respectful interchange between children and other children; parents and children; and grandparents and their grandchildren. The stories also provide instructive challenges to the maturity of any young persons understanding of humor. Much of this humor is based on stories told and heard from young people visiting the home of the authors own children.Brad Taylor, a retired banker and storyteller, was born in Wisconsin and has lived in New York, Latin America, San Francisco and Asia. With his wife, he divides his time between homes in Connecticut and New Mexico. Illustrator Hank Blaustein, a retired New York City school teacher, has been a freelance artist much of his life.
