He designed the elegant neo-classical interiors for Andy Warhol's town house on the Upper East Side of New York, as well as Yves St. Laurent's nearby Egyptian Revival apartment and the town house of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall. Johnson's own apartment was Arts and Crafts. His genius was that he could design in any style, from Louis XV in St. Louis to Ranch style in Texas, as he did for Barbra Streisand, Fran Lebowitz, and Richard Gere.
